Curse of the Chumash was created in 1976 for an article in Surfer Magazine. Steve Pezman, the then editor requested an image with a Chumash village on the point at Malibu. Working on a large horizontal canvas maybe 4' X 8' Rick toiled all day and night on the project, but by the next morning had painted whatever he had done over and produced a large female figure laying on her side on the beach with a wave peeling off behind her.
