FLYING EYEBALL HYBRID SILKSCREEN FINE ART PRINT

The Legend of the Flying Eyeball Meets the Soundproof Eyeball

The legend goes that sometime in 1969, Rick Griffin decided that two eyeballs were better than one. One was his legendary Flying Eyeball, created for Jimi Hendrix (BG-105 op-1). The other was the Soundproof Eyeball, created for a bill featuring the Youngbloods and Screamin’ Jay Hawkins (AOR 2.22).

The story goes that after both shows, Rick spent a wild evening cutting, combining, and collaging the two psychedelic icons into something entirely new. Two visions collided, creating a one-of-a-kind hybrid that blurred the line between finished artwork and spontaneous experimentation.

Was it an experiment, a private joke, or simply Rick following an idea wherever it led? That’s part of the mystery. The legend lives on.

Now, more than half a century later, this legendary mashup is coming to life as a limited-edition fine art silkscreen print release.

Debuting at the @TRPS show in San Francisco on November 7, 2026, this special collaboration brings together The Estate of Rick Griffin and The Chambers Project with restoration and color by Miles Griffin.
